Stephen Dansky has over 30 years in the electric and gas industries with a focus on deregulation and the management of corporate ventures. He is the founder and former president of a natural gas storage and transportation company, as well as the founder and former partner of an electric transmission company. Both companies were "first of their kind and first to market" following the Federal deregulation of interstate gas transmission and subsequent deregulation of interstate electric transmission.
Prior experience includes vice president of a power plant development company and head of the natural gas division of a large international consulting company. Mr. Dansky was appointed to the board of directors of the Independent Power Producers of New York, and appointed to the board of a solar and wind power development company.
Mr. Dansky presented testimony numerous times at the federal and state levels regarding the deregulation of the electric industry, the marginal costs of generating and transmitting electricity, the cost of electricity from various technologies, and the economics of electric generation by regulated and non-regulated power producers. He has written various published articles regarding the deregulation of the electric and gas industries and their impacts on financial markets, increased competition in natural gas purchasing, interactions between the electric and gas markets, marginal electricity prices, and power plant economics.
His education includes a B.S. in astronomy and physics and a M.S. in nuclear engineering from Penn State, and a M.B.A. in economics from New York University. He currently teaches economics as an adjunct professor and has been an invited speaker at several universities on topics including power plant economics, power plant project financing, corporate entrepreneurship in the energy industry, and intellectual property.
When not teaching, Steve can be often found either playing guitar or playing tennis. He has never come to terms with, nor has he accepted, his amateur status with these two passions.
Mr. Dansky joined the faculty at Indian River State College in 2015.
